I am an officer's spouse (i.e. civilian) and am looking for any and all resources that deal with the experiences, training, ect for officers I as a civilian am allowed to read / have access to.
I am looking for: stories, training materials on what officers mentalities/mindsets are (or developing them, especially), materials that deal with instructing officers on what they emotionally and psychologically will encounter, and how to deal with it counseling resources for officers studies on officers experiences statistics anecdotes insights Please put this out there, forward to friends, pm me their email address and i will respond from my private email (assuming they aren't on this forum)...whatever... pm me for my private email and i'll give that... I am looking for all this for a specific reason: I am a freelance writer working on a series of articles geared to building relationships/strengthening relationships between officers and spouses. I am wanting to get as sure a grasp on the world of the officer as I can so I can help spouses understand that, and work through expectations those spouses (out of a lack of perspective) may have upon their officer-spouses. I guess you could say it is slanted towards the officer, being sensitive/understanding the needs/experiences of the officers as best a civilian can. I grew up with a step-father from a generation older than the Vietnam era, but who was an MP and also an arson investigator/lt. fireman. It came with stories and teachings of a worldview I have come to find resonates in my spouses life... i think i at least know where i can say i will never comprehend the experience of an officer, but hearing the struggles helps me to ascertain how to approach being a support (at least as much as a civilian can). I know officers go to each other for understanding (as only another officer can understand), but officer and civilian both process emotions the same (despite not having the same emotional experiences). |

I guess i should add, if you have information as to where i can find such information you can provide that - you needn't just provide the resources. if you have a certain perspective you just want to share, a beef you wish spouses understood, whatever... if you know web sites that deal with even the remotest relevance to these issues, send that along... if you know folks working in this field, or know who can direct me to resources... any and all this and more is welcomed. If you yourself is a counselor, and have some insights....

Lastly i guess i should add i would hope to provide the resources i find back to all officers and spouses,so, if you are looking for resources (thankfully in this private forum) i hope to be able to supply you with them, so don't hesitate to ask me for what I have been given...
