Heading out to the lease for some R&R. Not a serious hunt today, mainly just a stress reliever. Gonna stack more brush around the ground blind & put up a camera. I'm hoping for some the poor man's bear (hogs) to come in, but would certinly enjoy watching some deer. I'm only taking my duty guns (Glock 31 & 870) for the fun.
Anyother hunter/gatherers here? While the numbers are dwindling, I've found that the type A personality of officers usually enjoy/appreciate outdoor activities off duty.

I like hunting but haven't had a chance to go here in TX yet. One of these years I'll get tired of hearing every one else's stories and end up going. As for hogs, the northern counties have a hog season but the southern counties do not. I think the dividing line is somewhere just north of San Antonio.

Actually, Javilina are governed by set seasons, but feral hogs are considered a non-game animal. Thus there is no set season or limit. They are multiplying so fast they are taking over the state and causing millions of dollars damage to land. A sow can have 2 maybe 3 litters per year; each litter consists of 6-13 piglets. Piglets can breed by 6 months age. Do the math.
Around here they are starting to pose a problem on roadways as far as collisions. Hit a deer; replace a fender. Hit a hog; replace an A-frame.

Last time I went hunting hugs my wife changed the doorlocks while I was out. :heh:
No pigs today, you could sure see where they'd been in the wheat field. I did get to watch a young buck for 5 minutes.
Getting out like that really recharges my batteries.

Went to the lease again today, along with my oldest son (23yrs). We didn't see any critters, but got to spend some quality/quiet time together. If I do it right, there should be a photo of the sunset here:

You don't have to take anything to make the trip successful, when you're given things like this.
