What length do you recommend? Is 26" too long for practical purposes?

Our ASP instructor had to watch each of us to see how we handled the ASP to get an idea about which size we need.
But most of the taller folks could handle the larger ASPs (26) and vice versa for the people of smaller stature.
IIRC the majority of people could handle the 26in with few problems

I have the 26 but I think I could do the job better with the smaller one (21?). Just do not get that baseball bat sized one. I think its a 31 or 32. Hijole thats huge on your belt!

I ordered a 21" Airweight Aluminum baton to save on weight without giving up striking power.

I say carry a big wood baton. When I'm off the bike and on patrol that's what I use. I've seen a couple of asp's bent after striking an opponent.

I like mine, about 24". I swapped out a shorter 1 I had for it from 1 of the shorter officers on the dept. When she had this 1 on her belt it came up to her armpit. I'm a little taller, 6'6".

I've seen a couple of asp's bent after striking an opponent.
I've bent 1 in use, didn't have a problem with it. I just had to get it replaced cause I couldn't retract it. I didn't realize it till it was over.

I prefer to use the ASP as a door knocker. Either that or it can be intimidating to disperse a crowd. You can also use it to pry an arm out from under a grounded suspect.

Or you could just drive stun them.

For actual fighting I prefer to leave the ASP in the holder. With an ASP I have two weapons. The fore end and the back end. Empty handed I have nine.

Two hands, two elbows, two knees, two feet, and my head.

I suppose I still have eight others with the baton, but I still prefer the empty hand. At least I don't have to worry about clearance for the baton and retention. Besides, you shouldn't be trading blows at range anyway.

Get in, control, finish.
