Consult with the departments you're looking at regarding the service weapons. Some want you using theirs. And some I think if you don't want to use the one they provide they give you a list to choose from, then you have to pay for it yourself.*

If you have bad knees you might have a problem getting hired, but if you're just gonna wear it for knee support then consult with the department you're applying for.

How heavy the vest will be is pending what class vest you wear. Most agencies require minimum Class II vests. *
