Give me the skinny - good or bad idea (or personal preference), receive only or with mic, what is good, etc. Go.

Personally, I like the earbud only, & keep my big mic where I've always worn it. It helps me hear radio traffic during contacts (I'm about deaf); allows me to monitor 2 chnls in the car; and prevents contacts from hearing traffic.

I like my big mic because I've seen a couple of guys try to find thier secret hidden mini mics during a scuffle and have a hard time.

Just my take of things....your milage may vary.

I usually just wear the big mic. However when we have our big parades, festivals, and details in clubs and bars I wear an earpiece for receiving only for the reasons Broke Hoss lists. I still transmit through the big mic.

Started out using the EarphoneConnect HAWK, which has an acoustic tube earpiece and a clip-on lapel PTT mic. Worked well.

Then I decided to get the Motorola Public Safety Microphone which moves the radio antenna up onto the mic itself. Reception was significantly improved in low-service areas. But in order to retain the stealth afforded by an earpiece, I got the EarphoneConnect FOX, which is a listen-only setup with a threaded 3.5mm jack (at least, that's what my radio needed with the Moto Public Safety Mic) on the end of a coiled cord and then an acoustic tube on the other end. Works great! I transmit with the shoulder mic but receive through the earpiece.

I've seen some earpieces that plug into the shoulder mic itself. I would avoid those. The FOX attaches to the radio itself.

I got one you can have, it is a 3.5 mm threaded mike that hooks up to motorola style shoulder mike.

Yeah, whatever you get it MUST have a threaded connection.

I go old mig mic style. I crank it loud and non-tactical like.
Some of our guys use the earpieces but I do fine without it.
I don't need anymore voices in my head.:shiner:

I can't believe you hear voices in your head. With my guns talking to me all the time I would never be able to hear anything in my head :freak:
