I will be picking some up in the next couple months to carry on duty. Which OC spray to you use and why? I understand that department policy may dictate some limitations.

I've carried 10% stream and 10% foam. You carry what they give you here. Small can.

I prefer the foam. Very little officer contamination with a good dispersal cone. That and it sticks to the skin and melts into the eyes. If you didn't get him real good but got the forehead, in a few seconds he'll be feeling it.

We carry Punch II by department issue. Mine is old, but still works fine. I hate to get the new stuff cause they've gone to stream dispersal; I prefer my mist/cone. They looked at the foam but opted out for some reason.

IMPORTANT NOTE!!!

Whatever you carry for spray, make sure it is WATER based and not OIL based. If you spray someone with oil based OC and then taser them they will light up like a Buddhist monk.

THIS IS ALOT OF PAPERWORK.

Even if your department doesn't carry tasers, it is likely that at least one neighboring PD does, so get the water based OC.

Yeah that's definitely ALOT of paperwork. They would pull my video etc.
That reminds me. We did some Taser training and one of the scenarios was a guy with a gas can. He was bat shit crazy and had a lighter in one hand and a gas can in teh other.
most of us lit his ass up with the Taser, against the instructor's recommendations.

My argument was, "better him bursting into flames than me".

Fuck him.:fyou:

According to some of the opinions in the other thread, if you carry the water based OC then you could put the fire out yourself too! http://www.texascops.net/forums/images/icons/icon10.gif

Why couldn't you just shoot the lighter out of his hand?

Spray it in your face and see if it hurts. If it burns the everloving shit out of you, its good to go.

Fox Labs Stream user here. I've used the Cone too, and while you get a much better respiratory impact, the backspray is much worse if there's any wind at all.

Well how's this for a kick in the taint. I just found out that the Fox Labs spray doesn't fit in my Safariland open top carrier - it's too loose. Hey Phil, what do you carry yours in? Now the decision whether to switch sprays or switch carriers.

Safariland makes two different diameters of OC holders, 1.375" and 1.5". The 2 oz. and 3 oz. Fox Labs cans are 1.37" diameter and therefore require the 1.375" holders. Their 4 oz. can is 1.5". I just ordered the Safariland 37-3-9 from GT Dist, which is the high-gloss open top holder for 3 oz. can.

Tell me which type of leather you use (plain, basketweave, or high-gloss) and whether you're rocking a 2, 3, or 4 oz. can and I'll tell you the exact model number for the holder you'd need. Or you can just check this page: http://www.safariland.com/DutyGear/product.aspx?pid=37

Awesome, thanks Phil. I need the 37-3-2.
