HOUSTON (AP) — Two condemned Texas inmates set to die this month have lost appeals at the U.S. Supreme Court.
The justices on Monday refused a petition from 31-year-old Joshua Maxwell. He is set to die next week for abducting, robbing and fatally shooting off-duty Bexar County Sgt. Rudy Lopes as part of a cross-country crime spree in 2000.
The court also refused an appeal from 47-year-old Hank Skinner. He faces lethal injection March 24 for the 1993 New Year's Eve killings of 40-year-old Twila Jean Busby and her two grown sons at their home in Pampa.
The men are among at least 11 condemned Texas prisoners with execution dates in the coming months.

HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) — Joshua Maxwell was portrayed with his girlfriend as living out the violence-glorifying 1990s film "Natural Born Killers." Now he's winding up the title character in a for-real version of the prison movie "Dead Man Walking."
His final scene could be played out Thursday evening in Huntsville. That's when Maxwell is set to die in the Texas death chamber for the robbery and fatal shooting of an off-duty sheriff's deputy in San Antonio nearly 10 years ago.
Evidence showed the slaying of 40-year-old Rudy Lopes, a sergeant with the Bexar County Sheriff's Department, was one of at least two killings during a cross-country crime spree involving Maxwell and former stripper girlfriend Tessie McFarland.
The 31-year-old Maxwell would be the fourth prisoner executed this year in Texas.
