View Full Version : Do you stroke tickets on Christmas?

For low end stuff like minor speeding, rolling through stop signs, etc. Do you give folks a break, is it just another day, or do you write everybody because you are working on Christmas?

I go into holiday mode. I pretty much leave people alone unless it's a major breach of decorum or public safety.

I did arrest someone on Christmas Eve. He picked a fight with his adult son, was cocked, and had a court warrant.

So it's not like free for all day.

I tend to keep the holidays in mind, but if the suspect asks for a warning, he or she gets in automatic ticket. Ho ho ho.

I think the people that ASK for warnings will irritate me.

Depends on who they are when they ask. If grandma asks for a warning she'll likely get it.

Gangbanger wannabe 19 yr. old likely won't.

Alot of it is in how you ask for said warning. Acting like you're entitled will almost always get you a ticket. Humility will go a long way to getting that warning. Lying gets you crushed.

I had a guy the other day going 15 over. He had an insurance card expired about a month and swore his legit one was at home and he forgot to put it in the car. That does happen. Where he went wrong was when he told me about six times that he's never been pulled over before. I found it hard to believe that a 40-something year old guy has never been stopped. Unfortunately for him I can check the in house contacts that every department in the state has had with him from my car in about thirty seconds.

I found six tickets over the past ten years (when he got his license in RI after moving here from out of state) before I stopped counting.

I threw the book at him, and told him it was because he was a liar. He got all pissy, but he still has to pay them.

HA HA, I win.

I try to keep in mind that it is christmas and try to let people go w/a warning....if they end up w/a ticket its their fault....ie being an a$$hole or treating me like $hit

If they are police and respectful....they get warning and sent on their way

If I work federal grant overtime, I usually dish out lots of tickets.
Recently, I stopped a shitload of Middle Eastern and Asians. ALL of them asked for warnings. The women look like they are about to commit suicide, or their man will beat them with a stick when they get home.
Chill out ladies, its just a ticket.

Interesting development on this particular case. He showed up to his court date, plead guilty, and asked to speak. The request was granted. I wasn't there for arraignment (only get called in for trial, if they request one).

The son of a bitch actually lamented how I was rude to call him a liar when he so obviously was. The next day my Major asked me about it in the hallway. I explained the situation and said Major gave me an eye roll. Not for me, but for the motorist.

Some people just expect everyone to sugar coat their lives. Oh well, pay the clerk on your way out.

Jesus dude. If they are Police, I say "Hey brother, be safe out there, have a good one" and send them on their way! No warning needed. Christmas or any other time of the year. :freak:

As for citizens on Christmas, I'm probably going to be taking calls from my house, not out running traffic. If I do wind up with a ticket writer in my hand, it's probably because I got called to a crash, in which case the usual policy still applies--if I can tell that a violation occurred, someone's getting a ticket. But yeah, if I'm out and about, I definitely go easy on people. It's Christmas for chrissake!

It's better to give than receive :)

I usually do not give any tickets out on the holiday itself.
