When I get out of the academy I'll be purchasing another weapon for duty. Currently I'm debating between the Glock 21 and the Springfield XD and I'm looking for opinions. I have no experience with the XDs so any input would be good. Does Springfield offer a LEO discount like Glock?

I cannot say for sure if Springie offers LE discounts. I got mine pretty cheap but I searched around town for them awhile.

The G21 is a good gun if you have big booger-pickers.
You are welcome to shoot my XD45 any time we can get a link-up but I do not own a G21, only G22 and G27.

Go to a gun store and handle them both. Even better, if you have a local range that rents guns, go and try each out.

They're both quality firearms. It comes down to personal preference. Unless policy dictates otherwise, I'd open up your search to other manufacturers. Sig, H&K, and S&W for instance make fine duty weapons.

Just as good as any Springfield or Glock.

Personally, based upon my master grip and hand size, I'm partial to the S&W M&P or Sigs.

I'm familiar with the Glock - and I'll of course fondle the Springfield before I buy, I'm just trying to gather some initial intel. I like the Glock (and the Springfield) design because of their ease of breakdown to clean (only 3 parts).

Rare is it that a semi auto handgun (commercial off the rack) breaks down into more than four major parts.

You should show up with a .45 Long Colt Peacemaker. When they look at you funny just ask "What? I thought this was Texas?"

I got to shoot Feet's XD a few weeks ago. Definitely not a bad weapon, but that sealed the deal for me to stick with the Glock line - probably because I'm already accustomed to them.

Glocks are a damn good choice. Maybe Glock will come up with a 4th Gen G21 which has some improvements.
But, I got an itch. An itch only a new XD (M) can cure.

Might be getting an XDm 45 soon when I can figure out how to pay for it.
Maybe I can sell some blood.:yikes:
