I'm trying to get on Houston PD and I had some questions that I tried to get answered but the recruiter has not gotten back to me about. We all know going to the academy one where you have to buy most of your high priced gear costs a lot.
I was trying to find out is what level holsters does the department allow? Next I'd like to know if they allow pistol mounted flashlight?
I'm trying to find this out because give the time I know I can find a holster this lets me carry my weapon with a light for a good price. I'm guessing if the mounted flashlight is ok then I would need to buy my own holster.

If you haven't gotten hired yet (or on some kind of order of merit list for vacancies) you're asking the wrong questions. Concern yourself less with geardo shit and more with making it through the phases of the process. Would you rather get a job or save $20 on a holster? Your call.
Galls can ship stuff overnight and I'm sure there are stores in Texas that sell duty gear. You can find appropriate gear within policy quite easy.
You're like a troop who just got his deployment orders to Iraq asking where a good place to buy a Silver Star is when he should be looking for tactical analysis and intelligence on the enemy. It's putting the cart before the horse.
Focus on what truly matters for now.

Patience Grasshopper, have patience. Get your badge first then worry about a fancy holster with mounted light. Master ye ol SL 20 or similar flashlight first.

I ask because I can get a deal right now! Save money!! I'm not worried about getting pasted the academy I have my TCLEOSE and any one knows the state test is easy!!
I want to know this because this saves me $100+ if I can get the info I need!! I know they take the XDM-40 that I own! Just need to know if they let you have pistol mounted flashlights and what level holster!!
Is that to much? I worked a S.O that did not let you have mounted flashlights and it sucked and I will not do it again for my well being!! Getting home to my family is #1!!
Now if I can get the gear I need for a hell of a lot less why not? All us officers know we love free and cheap stuff!! All I'm asking is what level holsters does the department allow? Next I'd like to know if they allow pistol mounted flashlight?
Is that to much to ask???

You're right about going home being #1, but I don't feel a weapon mounted light should be a deal breaker for picking an agency to work for. Safety comes more from tactics than tools. Don't get me wrong....I love my gun light as well, but believe me if the department is worth working for it would take more than a few minor equipment regulations to axe the deal. If this is a requirement for you, it's a question you should've had answered before getting this deep in the process.
You might not be allowed any slack as far as equipment during your training/probation period. Do you have any contacts other than just the recruiter? I would figure you are/have been in fairly regular contact with a background investigator or some of the academy staff.
I'm still of the slow down, focus on actually getting hired; getting through the academy; then field training; any probationary period; and then fret the little stuff opinion.
But good luck to ya.

Really? You're going to die if you don't have a weapon light? Don't you think you're being a bit dramatic?
Focus on getting hired. On the side, contemplate this...

99 percent of my department does not use weapon lights. We have had law enforcement in my city for about 160 years and very few have used weapon-mounted lights.
Do not set up mental barriers in your mind, especially if it gets you dependent on your equipment.
I could kick ass wearing nothing but a pair of shower shoes, Oakleys and carrying a hickory baton.:heh:
The equipment can make your work easier but it will not make you any smarter or more instinctive.
